Yarmouth – Harriet Isabelle Snow, 72, of Pownal passed from this life to the next on Sunday April 7, 2013 at Coastal Manor after years of declining health due to diabetes. She was born in Portland on December 1, 1940, a daughter of Thelma (Ellis) and Charles Gerrish. Her early years were spent in Buxton before the family moved to Cumberland and graduated from Greely Institute.
On January 17, 1959 she married Gordon Snow of Pownal and made their home in Pownal with their children. Harriet always had a deep love of children, animals and wildlife. She was a member of the Pownal Center First Parish Congregational Church.
Harriet loved to cook and she enjoyed preparing Saturday evening meals for the “Casco Bay Ramblers” before their monthly jam sessions. She especially enjoyed listening to one of her good friends, Mary Capen, sing and yodel with the group. Another friend, Annie Spaulding has been of great support to her family over the years.
Harriet will be remembered as the “very best’ by her devoted husband, a wonderful mother whose love could change a life for the better, a woman who loved everybody and an easy laugh. Harriet loved to travel with Gordon and there are fond memories of trips Downeast, Hawaii, Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry, Las Vegas and England.
Harriet is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gordon Snow of Pownal; her son Morris Snow and his wife Stacy of Pownal; her son Gordon Christopher Snow of Lewiston; her daughter Margaret Capen of Richmond; six grandchildren: Charles, Amy, Lyndsey, Cynthia, Eric and Laura; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister Frances Rowell; her brother David Gerrish and his wife Mary; her brother Paul Gerrish and his wife Diane; as well as many nieces and nephews.
