Elaine was born in Brunswick, ME on October 21, 1935 the daughter of Doris and John Peacock. She was adopted by Helen and Ike Bowen and lived in North Pownal while attending school in the North Pownal one-room schoolhouse.
Elaine was an amazing woman that loved the outdoors, her family, her friends, trips and animals. She was a member of The First Parish Congregational Church in Pownal. She would spend her summers with her cousin Nancy at the farm, she would take snowmobile trips, travel to Eastport to visit the special hotdog stand, jump in the RV with family and special friends. She took trips to Cancun, the Cayman Islands, Florida to visit Jana, Quebec, Niagara Falls, Bean bus trips with John and Judy, and yearly to the Fryeburg Fair.
Elaine was a devoted long time volunteer at Freeport Community Services. She gave well over one hundred hours of volunteer work at the Thrift Shop each year. She worked each week at the shop (one of the Friday girls) and at home matching the volunteers available time with the needed hours at the Thrift Shop and producing the monthly work schedule. She loved this work and the people she worked with.
Her love for animals was shown with Kitties, Big Max, and IsIs. She adopted some chickens. She supported many animal shelters like Coastal Humane Society, the Westbrook Animal Refugee League and MSSPA buy a bale program. She always enjoyed being around and caring for animals.
Mostly though Elaine loved her family taking vacations with them, spending the 4th of July and having a barbecque, Monday night spaghetti suppers with Nana P. The holidays were another special time for her because on someone’s birthday they always got the cake they wanted and there were always plenty of gifts. Elaine loved to give to everyone but especially those she loved.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband Mervin; her children Gabrielle Profenno of Brunswick, Jana Lynn Profenno of Brunswick, Scott Profenno of Old Orchard; her step children Debra Small and her husband Don of Yarmouth and Michael Wyman of Durham, grandchildren Ricky Profenno and Jamie Profenno; step grandchildren Michael Purinton and his wife Alison; step great grandchild Alexander Strout; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
