Yarmouth – Colleen W. Cook, 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. She was born on May 20, 1929, to Raymond and Theresa of Small Point, Maine. Colleen graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1947. She held various positions at Marine Growth on Small Point Beach and Wyman’s Store in Small Point.
Colleen married Albert E. Cook on April 25, 1948. They made one of their first homes in Yarmouth. Colleen was CEO of the Cook household, raising eight children with Albert.
In 1988, Colleen and Albert retired to West Point, Maine. In retirement they continued their love of gardening, woodworking, painting and crafting. She ran a gift store called Country by the Sea and enjoyed sharing her love of the ocean and home décor. Throughout her life she loved playing the piano, reading and writing.
Colleen was a good friend to all. She found ways to help people in their time of need, often making personal sacrifices. She always set a wonderful example of treating others how you would want to be treated. Family celebrations were always a highlight for Colleen as she so enjoyed her family coming together. Her love embraced her family and close friends.
Colleen’s faith in God impacted her life profoundly. She was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church of Cumberland. She served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and librarian for the Bible Baptist Church of Saco for many years and recently was a dedicated member of the Small Point Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Theresa Wyman; her husband of 62 years, Albert E. Cook, Sr.; her sister, Maxine Wyman Torrey; her daughter, Theresa W. Beal; and her grandson, Matthew J. Cook. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Peterson and husband, Tom, of Topsham; Constance Mott and husband, Russell, of Yarmouth; Rochelle Petersen and husband, Mark, of Falmouth; Phillis Burcham and husband, Cary, of Land O’ Lakes, FL; Andrea Noble and husband, Renn, of Kennebunk; Adrianne Denenberg and husband, Lenny, of Abington, MA; and a son, Albert E. Cook, Jr. and wife, Charlotte, of Whitehouse Station, NJ; sixteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of Colleen’s life will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Small Point Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Coffin officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. following the service at Riverside Cemetery Yarmouth.
