Falmouth - Alice M. (Akermark) Crowley, 95, formerly of Yarmouth and Hallowell, passed away on September 9, 2013 in Falmouth, ME, after a brief illness. The daughter of Thorsten and Marie (Christenson) Akermark, she was born in Boston, MA on February 15, 1918 and lived in that city for much of her life. A graduate of Hyde Park High School, she married her high school sweetheart, William Crowley in 1942, and together they raised three daughters. Prior to her marriage she was employed at the Walter Baker Chocolate Company, and once her children were in school, she returned to work at Harbridge House, a management consulting firm, where she started as a temp and rose to Executive Secretary to the President and CEO of the company.
Moving to Maine after “her” Bill passed away in 1985; Alice lived first at Blueberry Cove in Yarmouth and later at Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell and enjoyed life in her adopted state very much. She loved traveling and her travels included taking her daughters on a wonderful three-week tour of Scandinavia in celebration of her 75th birthday, during which they visited relatives in Sweden. Alice was very proud of her Swedish heritage and was a member of the Independent Order of Scandinavians. She was also active in the 1918 Club, and the Red Hat Society.
Alice is survived by her three devoted daughters and their spouses: Carolyn and Ed Czekaj of Indian Trail, NC, Paula and Colin Kaveney of Freeport, ME, and Susan and Jim Smith of Whitefield, ME, as well as her loving grandchildren and their spouses: Chris and Kristi Czekaj, Beth and Brian Ickes, Matt Smith and Catalina Silva, and Mike Smith and Liana Popkin. She was also the very proud great-grandmother of Brielle, Grayson and Alexa Ickes, and Alexandra and Olivia Smith. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
