Zelika “Ike” (Farley) Edwards was born August 11, 1920 in Yakima, WA to Margaret (Hause) and Treffle Farley. She died October 23, 2019 in Wenatchee, WA surrounded by her family. Zelika graduated from Selah High School in 1938 and married to the love of her life, James “Jim” W. Edwards, at Central Lutheran Church, Yakima, WA December 27, 1941.
Zelika was a longtime member of Central Lutheran Church of Yakima, a member of Merry Mixers, Pierce Maker Quilting Group and Altar Guild of Central Lutheran. She was a life member of Daughters of Pioneers of Washington, being a past president several times over the years. She with other daughters put on an interactive presentation of “A Day in the Life of a Pioneer Woman” to many school children in the Yakima Valley and also at Sunnyslope Elementary School in Wenatchee. She earned a presidential acknowledgement for her many services activities in the Yakima area.
Zelika traveled many places with her daughter in the lower 48 states and also Alaska, Mexico, Egypt, Israel and her favorite place, Rome. In 2008 she moved to Wenatchee to be close to her daughter. She attended Grace Lutheran Church in Wenatchee as she was able.
She is preceded in death by Jim in 1995 and her parents and her brother Wilfred Farley and Paul Farley. She is survived by her son James “Jim” (Sharyn) of Issaquah and her daughter Kathleen “Kathy” (Pat) of Wenatchee, grandchildren Connie (Greg) Hicks of Carnation, Carrie (Dan) O’Neil of Bothell, Christopher Edwards of Issaquah, Katherine Ryan of Wenatchee, Jeanne Miller of Kennewick, Shannon (Chuck) Scheiwiller of Spokane, Nicole (Corey) Morrison of Wenatchee and Jessica Harris of Bellingham, 17 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Thank you to all those who have cared for Zelika over the past few years, especially to Dr. Sam Ortiz and staff, all the wonderful care givers at Colonial Vista Assisted Living, especially Karen, and to those wonderful care givers at Colonial Vista Assisted Living, especially Karen, and those wonderful caregivers at Hospice, especially Adrienne, for helping our mom and our family through these last few months.
There will be a Graveside Service on Saturday November 9, 2019 at 10:00 am at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, 3001 Terrace Heights Drive, followed by a Celebration of Life at Central Lutheran Church, 1604 W. Yakima Avenue.
