He was a resident of Applecreek Adult Home in Yakima, Washington. He had battled Alzheimer’s for the last few years of his life. Willis was born on December 1, 1915 in Athol, Kansas. He was the third son of eight children born to Archie and Lela Walker. Marjorie Lake is the only surviving sibling. He met the love of his life Alice Marie Watts. They were married on June 1, 1941. She preceded him to heaven on August 19, 1982 after a long battle with polio and cancer. Two daughters were blessed into this union, Joanna ‘Joni’ Mae Walker Anderson and Iona Jeanne Walker Durnan.
Willis was a man of many talents (jack of all trades, master of all) and gifts. He was a loyal and faithful preacher, teacher, builder, care giver, father, grandfather and great grandfather, uncle and brother. His legacy is phenomenally amazing and will live on forever. He blessed every life that crossed his path and will be genuinely missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his oldest daughter ‘Joni’ Anderson (Kevin Anderson preceded him in death), granddaughter Amanda Nicole Anderson Whisman, her husband, Jon Whisman; great grandsons, Grahame Walker Whisman and Leonadis Edward Whisman (Leo); his youngest daughter Iona Durnan, her husband Tom Durnan, grandson, Nathan Edward Durnan, his wife, Julie; great granddaughter, Rachel Elizabeth Durnan and great grandson, Aiden Matthew Durnan. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and his sister, Marjorie Lake.
June 27, 2015 there will be a military graveside service at West Hills Memorial Park for 11 am; followed by a memorial service commencing at 1 pm at West Valley Nazarene Church with reception. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people donate to Alzheimer’s Association or their favorite charity.
