She was born November 12, 1936 in Hancock County, Illinois to Roy and Callie (Hainline) Sly. Wanda met her future husband in Hillsboro, Iowa and they were married April 28, 1953 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Shortly after the wedding they were blessed with four children. While Lawrence served his time Wanda stayed at home with the kids. In 1973 the family moved to Yakima and have lived here since.
Wanda started her career at Baileys Jean’s factory where she spent 5 years until the factory closed. She then became a grocery clerk at Save on foods where she spent 20 plus years till she retired in 2000.
After retiring she spent her time with her grandkids as their favorite babysitter. Over the years Wanda enjoyed cooking and reading. Along with this Wanda loved traveling with lifelong friend Grace Anderson.
Wanda left behind daughter, Pamela Hurst and husband David of Yakima: son, Anthony Nichols of Clovis New Mexico: daughter, Tina Gutheridge and husband Russell of Yakima: son. Jeffrey Nichols of Yakima: daughter Susie Ellis of Bellevue: grandchildren, Shanen of Washington, Shane of Washington, Samantha of Washington, Caitlin of Washington, Taylor of Washington, Brett of Washington, Lauren of New Mexico, Christopher of New Mexico, and Randi of Washington; great grandchildren, Wade of Washington, Cain of Washington, Donovan of Washington, Logan of Washington, Sean of Washington and Harmony of Washington; Sisters Ruth Hopson of Illinois and Luan Richardson of Illinois.
Wanda is proceeded in death by husband Lawrence Nichols; sisters, Marvel, Janet, Margaret and brother James.
A memorial service will be held at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the Terrace Heights Grange.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
