Bob was a long-time member of Deer Park Baptist Church in Newport News, and attended First Presbyterian Church of Yakima.
Bob graduated from Warwick High School in 1968 and continued his education at Old Dominion College, majoring in criminal justice until he was drafted into the military. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served 4 years at the USCG station in Yorktown, VA. Upon honorable discharge, he worked several different jobs, only to realize that he wanted to continue his education. He enrolled at Christopher Newport College where he graduated magna cum laude. Bob then joined the federal government working with the U.S. Forestry Service and the Internal Revenue Service. He finally realized his passion for law enforcement when he became a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, where he excelled in his field. He was notable for the large number of cases he prepared, and won numerous awards throughout his years of service. Upon mandatory retirement in 2007, he continued to work in security for various organizations.
His greatest passion was his family. He and Marion raised 3 accomplished sons and they took great joy in spending many wonderful times together.
