Bob graduated from Naches High School, then worked a short time at a saw mill before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Navy three years as a Flight Engineer, mostly on Seaplane Patrol Bombers and with frequent flights on land-based planes. His tour was in the Pacific and included the battles of Iwo Jima & Okinawa.
Returning home, he worked a short time at a mill, acquired a private pilot license and moved to Juneau, Alaska. With a one year contract with the Army engineers, Bob was Helmsman on a tug boat pulling barges across the Gulf of Alaska to various ports. The second six months of the contract was on Adak Island in the Aleutian Chain.
Returning to Naches, Bob met and married a very wonderful lady, Elaine Reynolds. Bob and Elaine spent the remaining thirty-seven years of her life together. They loved to boat on the Columbia and Snake Rivers as well as on Lake Chelan. They acquired moorage on Puget Sound allowing them to have twenty-five years of boating in the San Juan & Canadian Gulf Islands.
Bob enjoyed several years of marriage to Dixie Jewett; much of the time was spent dancing and traveling in the motor home.
In later years, Bob left the greatness of Naches and moved to Yakima to be close to a golf course and an area to fly radio-controlled airplanes. It was then that Bob met a very special and talented lady, Sonia Granger. Together, they built a loving and beautiful companionship, generously complimented by Sonia’s beauty and love for giving.
Bob’s life was kind to him, with many years skiing White Pass, climbing many local and major peaks, including ascending Mt. Rainier twice. Retirement from self-employment allowed motor home trips to the south for many winters, including driving to San Carlos, Mazatlan and Cabot San Lucas, Mexico. Many winters were spent in San Diego and Yuma as well as trips to Branson, Banff and Alaska.
Bob was also an early member of the Naches Lions, and spent twenty-five years on the Naches Fire Dept. He also served several years as assistant chief, was a past member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, and Cascadians, as well as the VFW and American Legion.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Myrick, father Gerald Myrick, mother Nora Myrick, brother Willard Myrick and sister Winifred Anderson as well as a beloved friend, Sonia Granger.
He is survived by his nephew, Calvert Anderson, friend and caregiver, Becky Harlan, and “Monkie” their dog.
