Robert (Bud) LeRoy Anderson lost his courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78, born April 29, 1932 in Mountain View (Chewelah) Washington and spent the last 46 years in Yakima. Bud was employed with the King County Sherriff’s Department, Automat Vending, Boise Cascade, and Rockwell Hanford Operations and was known as the “Red Rooster”.
Bud enlisted in the USMC in 1949 and was deployed to Kunsan Air Base, during the Korean War with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, All Weather Fighter Squadron, “The Flying Nightmares”. Bud was deactivated from the USMC in 1957 as a SSgt receiving numerous ribbons and medals.
Bud married Sharon Briggs Hiebert March 27, 1993 on the Yakima City Trolley. They enjoyed 17 wonderful years of traveling and spending time with family and friends. Bud enjoyed designing and making wooden crafts and participating in an annual craft fair with his wife. He was well known for his rustic bird houses. Bud was an active member at the Spirit Alive Wesleyan Church and knew Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; daughters, Denine and Dale Broyles, New Braunfels, TX; Erin and Todd Grotting, Maple Valley; Michelle McKenzie, Irvine, CA; Charlene and Seth Sandland and Kim and Scott Bogardus both of Yakima. Grandchildren, Nehemiah Anderson-Chambers, Tyson and Angela Hohner, Devon Hanger, Austin Grotting, Shae Sandland, Kayla Sandland, Cody Bogardus and Lexus Bogardus. Great-grandchildren, Preston Chambers, Desiree Hohner and Nathaniel Hohner; sisters, Yuvonne Buckley and Roberta Jean (Bobbe) Lindley and numerous nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Hohner-Skucy and sister Charlotte Anderson.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 13, 2010, 2pm at Spirit Alive Wesleyan Church, 3601 Mt. View Avenue.
