Phyllis Elaine (Thompson) Eaton was born July 13th 1928 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Clarence Patterson and Ruth (Hastings) Patterson. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 12, 2019 at Memorial Hospital.
Phyllis was the third oldest of six children. Family moved to Winthrop, WA in 1935 and then to Yakima in 1937. She graduated from Highland High School in 1946 and had already been working for Yakima County Hospital. She became a nurse and x-ray technician, working at the Osteopathic Hospital and for Dr. Lee Ghormley.
Phyllis and Charles (Chuck) Thompson married in 1947. They had three boys and one girl. She is survived by children Vaile (Rita), Terry (Val), Danny (Cindi) Theresa Rose (Jim), stepdaughter Wendy (Ed) King, her sister Iva (Albert) DeAtley.
Grandchildren Todd, Chad, Julie Stacy, Travis, Logan. Step grandchildren Ame, Rusty, and Dan. Eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her babies Riley and Romeo maltese puppies.
The family lost Chuck in 1984. Phyllis married Henry Eaton in 1990. They resided in Bend, Oregon for 2 years and then moved to Amelia Island, Florida. She and Henry did a lot of traveling, favorite places being Hawaii & St. John’s Island.
Henry owned a Cessna airplane and Phyllis learned to fly it and got her pilots license at the age of 65. They were supporters and donated to Covenant House for Homeless Youth.
Henry passed in 2014. Phyllis moved back to Yakima in 2015. Through her life, she was a very active athlete. Basketball in High School, snow skiing, early member of Yakima Ski Club at White Pass and was still going down the slopes in her early 80’s, Expert ice skater (Dance), tennis and some golf later in life. She was a firm believer in the bible and Jesus Christ.
The children have special memories of trips to the beach, ice skating on local ponds and Yakima Ice Arena, skiing at White Pass, playing tennis, and visits to Florida.
Phyllis was preceded in death by brothers Lorne, Lester, Glen, Roger, and parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 10:00am at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home with a burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
