Maxine Aucutt, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on Saturday, May 14th, just one week short of her 97th birthday. She was born in Springfield, Oregon on May 21, 1914 to Claude Markee and Theodocia (Bowen) Markee. She was the eldest of five children. The young family moved to a homestead near Ford, WA, north of Spokane, where she, her sisters and brother attended elementary school. She later graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane in 1932.
Mom and Dad (Bob) were married on December 22, 1934. They lived in Spokane and later moved to Deer Park, WA where they operated a dairy farm. In 1961 the family moved to Selah where she lived until moving to the Living Care Retirement Center in Yakima. In late 2010 Mom moved to her son and daughter-in law, Jerry and Kay's Terrace Heights home.
Grandma had a busy and full life, having raised three rambunctious boys on a farm - fortunately she didn't know about everything they did She worked as the secretary to the superintendent of the Deer Park School District from 1959 to 1961, and later as the Secretary to the President of Yakima Valley College from 1961 until her retirement in 1981. She later quipped that it didn't usually take her too long to "train" most of the YVC presidents. Many people have remarked that she was one of the most intelligent ladies they have known.
Grandma was a member of Holy Family Church in Yakima. She belonged to the Garden Spot Grange in Deer Park for many years, the Selah Amity Club and the Women's Century Club in Yakima, where she served as its secretary for a number of years. She enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Australia, Hawaii and the Virgin Islands. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, watching the Mariners and playing Bridge with friends. Grandma always looked forward to the annual Aucutt family reunion.
She was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Theodocia Markee, her husband Robert (Bob) in 1962, sisters Marge Nelson and Francis Peterson, grandsons Ryan, Bradley and Bret Aucutt and many friends. She is survived by her sister Delores (Art) Pachernegg, brother Bruce (Velma) Markee; sons Bob, Jerry (Kay), and Steve (Shirley) Aucutt, grandchildren Greg (Lisa) Aucutt, Joyce (Rick) Mendoza, Rob (Tonya) Aucutt, Loren (Valerie) Aucutt, Tiffany Aucutt, Janelle Aucutt (Tyler Colby) and step grandson Mark (Tina) Hixson. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
The entire family thanks Jerry and Kay Aucutt for the loving care given to Grandma during the last months of her life.
