Mathilda Theresa Bell was born to Anton and Maria Sterr on January 17, 1922 , in Dingolfing, Germany. In 1925 Anton, Maria, Tilly and her two older sisters Mary and Annie arrived in Camas, WA. to begin there life as U. S. citizens. Upon graduating from Camas High School Tilly would meet and eventually marry Laurence U. Armstrong. They immediately started there family of five children, Sharon, Larry, Rosemary, Gary, and Richard. In 1956 Tilly would meet and marry John R. Hull, her second of three husbands. They enjoyed dancing and fellowship at the local Fraternal Order of Eagles along with potlucks, trailer clubbing, square dancing and playing pinochle. In 1975 Tilly and John would retire to Packwood, WA where Tilly would start her novelty store called The Bear Tree. In 1990, Tilly met and married Donald A. Bell. They were able to take several beautiful trips on cruise ships together during their later years in life. For most of Tilly's last twenty years she was a active volunteer and member of Harmon's senior center and Union Gap senior center where she enjoyed playing bingo, lunch and fellowship with many of the local people.
Tilly learned the value of hard work at a very young age. She worked nights at the local paper mill while finishing her high school credits in the day. Tilly was a master gardener who nourished the most beautiful fuchsias and rhododendrons. Tilly could knit, crochet make beautiful quilts along with being an excellent cook. Tilly was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great- great grandmother and caring friend to all she meet. Tilly is a vanishing breed that will be truly missed by all.
Tilly was proceeded in death by her parents Anton and Maria, husband Laurence Armstrong, son Larry Armstrong, daughter Rosemary Armstrong, husband John Hull, grandson Scott Hardman, sisters Annie Ross and Mary, husband Donald Bell, son-in-law Bill Ricard and grandson Elliot Hull.
There will be no services for Tilly and we request that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
