Lawrence “Larry” Silvestri, born in Yakima on July 9, 1928 to Pasquale (Peter) and Dulisse Silvestri, escaped these earthly bounds on Saturday, September 10, 2016 – on his way to happier and easier times. He was 88 years old when this new journey began. He was born the third of 9 children and lived in the Naches and Lower Naches area his whole life except for the 4 years he proudly served as a United States Navy Signalman between 1948 and 1952.
Upon returning from his enlistment in the Navy, he married Phyllis “Peggy” Fall on July 24, 1952. In December of 1954, they welcomed their oldest daughter, Karen to their family and on May 23, 1956 they happily brought Delores “Sis” home to complete the foursome.
Larry, affectionately known as “Puey” to his close and lifelong friends, worked in the fruit industry in one form another for the remaining years until he retired. In addition to farming 10 acres of fruit of his own, he worked as a warehouse man for Pacific Fruit and Produce and later became a field man for Pacific. When his family was young, Puey and Peggy and the girls spent many summer weekends camping and sharing time together that will always be a treasure remember. The family also enjoyed square dancing together for many, many years, traveling many different places together to enjoy that activity.
In his retirement years, Puey enjoyed working on projects with resin – especially loving to make belt buckles, chokers and preserving pictures that were special to him.
Larry was loved by nearly everyone that met him and he will be greatly missed by those he has left behind. He is survived by a brother, John Silvestri and wife Anita of Vancouver, WA.; two sisters, Rosemarie Gillette of Yakima and Dolores Gallegos of California; his two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Lynn Eakman and Sis and Rick Berghoff both of Yakima; three grandchildren, Ryan Berghoff of Ellensburg, WA, Jennielynn (Eakman) Van Wagoner of Yakima, WA and Stacy Eakman of Seattle, WA. He leaves 3 great grandchildren, Addi, Lilli and Kason.
He was a rock in our family and he will be so sorely missed.
We wish to thank the staff and residents at Brookdale Senior Living for making dad feel a part of the Brookdale family and for caring for him for these past 5 years. A special thanks as well to the staff at Summitview Healthcare Center for taking such good care of him in these last days. We appreciate your tenderness and the love that was so evident in your care and concern for him.
Viewing will be available on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 3 to 7 pm at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, Sept 17, 2016 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 11:00 am, followed by a short reception at Rainier Memorial Center reception hall adjacent to the cemetery.
