Larry was born to Robert Noel and Aloha Leavitt Farmer on March 16, 1939. Larry was born in Blackfoot, ID. Not long after he was born his family moved to Redondo Beach, CA, where his father began painting movie sets and later started a painting contracting business. Larry had many stories about being on the movie sets with his father and meeting many great western actors. Larry graduated from Redondo Beach High School. He had many wonderful stories about those high school days such as going to school with the Smothers brothers. He loved the ocean and going down to the pier for the fresh catch of the day. He also loved spending summers at his grandparents’ ranch in Mackay, ID.
Larry met Darlene Rae Platts while visiting relatives in Boise, ID. The handsome beach boy from California caught her eye, and the beautiful Idaho girl caught his. It was love at first sight. They were married on August 30, 1958, and settled in Boise, where they attended Boise Junior College and Larry became a police officer for the City of Boise. In March 1962, they were blessed with a baby girl and in May 1964 they were blessed with a baby boy. When the children were toddlers, they moved back to Redondo Beach to be closer to Larry’s parents. While helping his father, Larry attended and graduated from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Academy. After graduating, Larry was a policeman for Manhattan Beach, CA. The family spent many happy days at the beach before moving to Idaho Falls, ID where Larry worked for the police department and had his own painting contracting company. While in Idaho Falls, Larry and Darlene were married in the LDS temple. After Larry’s father retired from painting, Larry returned to police work in Green River, WY. During this time he worked undercover narcotics. Larry had many interesting stories from his career in police work. In 1989, Larry and Darlene moved to Red Bluff, CA, where they both worked for Tenneco/Pactiv until they retired.
They moved once again to Klamath Falls, OR in 2005 to help their daughter care for her twin children. After Darlene passed away March 2, 2007 Larry moved to Yakima, WA to be closer to his son. Larry and Darlene made many lifelong friends everywhere they lived. Larry will be remembered for his big generous heart and multitude of stories.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his father and mother, his brother, Lynn; father-in-law Sidney Platts; mother-in-law Viola Conner Platts; brother-in-law Wylsie Platts; sister-in-law Ellie Platts; sister-in-law Rheba Platts Barrett; and brother-in-law Stan Barrett.
He is survived by his son, Tregg (Susan) Farmer of Yakima, WA; daughter Tamera (Phil) Browder of Klamath Falls, OR; grandchildren Aaron and Katie Farmer, Aislinn and Bowen Browder; sister-in-law Carol Farmer Phelps (Paul) of Boise, ID; brother-in-law Bill (Pearl)Platts of Boise, ID; and brother-in-law Bob (Jeanette)Platts of Murrieta, CA. Larry is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All loved him very much.
Funeral Services will be held at Keith and Keith Funeral Home in Yakima, WA on Saturday April 9, 2016 at 2 pm.
