Kathleen was born on October 27, 1951 to George and Pat (Doherty) Farmer in Warrenton, Missouri. In 1960 the family moved to Southern California. Kathleen graduated from Tustin High School in 1970. That same year she followed her family when they relocated to Zillah, Washington.
Kathleen earned her nursing degree from YVC in 1983. She worked as a school nurse where she found a place in the hearts of both her co-workers and students.
Living in Southern California she enjoyed a life of fun with her four siblings. She lived in a large house with a pool where all the neighbors hung out. This is where she met her best friend, Nancy Dominy. She spent many weekends and holidays at her family’s cabin in the desert where she found her love of speed while driving the family’s candy apple red dune buggy. Her need for speed followed her to the end as one of the last things she did was tell the nurse about her cherry red Camaro parked outside.
She loved spending long weekends camping in the sand dunes at Potholes Reservoir, showing off her water skiing and fishing skills.
Kathleen took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She went out of her way to plan trips with them to Disneyland and Silverwood. She was always happy to see them and taught each one that they were something special.
Kathleen is survived by her son Jared (Katie) Wallace of Zillah and daughter Jessica (Scott) Hereford of Ellensburg; grandchildren Ashley Hooper, Jake Wallace, Maddie Wallace, and Abigail Hereford. She is also survived by her mother Pat Hyatt, brother Mike Farmer and sisters Karen (Dale) Wesselius, Christine McDonald and Carol Jackson.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her father George Farmer, her son Robert Wallace and husband Markel Cain.
The family would like to thank Heartlinks Hospice for their care and compassion.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, December 15 at 12:00 PM at Rainier Memorial Center in Yakima. Graveside inurnment will follow at the Zillah Cemetery.
