He graduated at Washington State University in pharmacy and he worked as a pharmacist for 41 years. He was drafted directly out of high school during World War II and served as a tank loader in the 745th Tank Battalion and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany.
John and his wife Mary were married for 59 years; they owned and operated Thrifty Rexall Drugs for ten years. After selling the business and retiring they enjoyed traveling to Europe, Central America, Australia, and many National Parks. John enjoyed golf, water skiing, dancing, hiking, and vegetable gardening. He was a consummate do-it-yourselfer. John will be remembered for his can-do attitude.
John and Mary have two children, Heidi Waldstein and Brian Sublett, and three grandchildren, Rachel, Mattie, and Tory Waldstein.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on June 27 at 1:00 P.M. at 9 S. 8th Ave., Yakima, WA. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate contributions be made to a favorite charity.
