Jack was born August 17, 1921 to Fred and Theresa Murphy Gilhuly in White Bluffs, Washington. Jack graduated from White Bluffs High School and then attended the University of Washington. He then enlisted in the Navy. Jack was a combat veteran and served in the South Pacific. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. After his discharge, he was unable to return to his original home of White Bluffs, due to its disbandment by the government to make way for the Hanford Nuclear Reservation during WWII. Jack then relocated to Yakima as his new home. He attended J.M. Perry Institute and graduated among the school’s first class after WWII. He received a degree in refrigeration and air-conditioning. He was employed as a pipefitter and refrigeration specialist at Hanford Atomic Works for 35 years. Jack was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Cathedral Catholic Church.
Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Meek Gilhuly; his brother, George A. (Aloha) Gilhuly; daughter, Anne Marie Gilhuly of Stanly, Idaho; sons, George F. (Joanne) Gilhuly of Wenatchee, WA, Michael J. (Debbie) Gilhuly of Folsom, CA; brother-in-law, Frank Meek of Sequim, WA; grandchildren, Justin Gilhuly, Brandon Gilhuly and Rachele Langis. Three great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Memorial Hospice Facility.
