Jane Susan Anderson

Jane Susan Stewart Butler Anderson passed away in Yakima, Washington early Sun day morning, September 1, 2013, with both of her daughters at her side. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to John “Jack” R. Stewart and Nora Hagen Stewart, who were of Scotch and Norwegian heritage.

Jane and her twin sister, Susan, and her younger brother Jack were raised in Aurora, Illinois. After graduating from high school, both twins went to Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University in New Orleans before joining United Airlines as Flight Attendants so they could see the world.

In 1951 Jane met Trans World Airlines Captain William “Tex” Butler. They married in May, 1952 and moved to Cairo, Egypt where her husband was Chief Pilot of the Cairo Station. Jane went home to Aurora when her first daughter, Susan, was born but decided not to repeat the long trip when her younger daughter, Shea, came along so Shea was born in Cairo, Egypt.

After traveling the world with her family, Jane returned to the states and the family settled first in Greenwich, Connecticut and then in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Jane and Bill finally settled in Parker, Colorado where Jane remained after Bill’s death in 1978. She lived there for several years and was a very successful real estate agent in the area. She combined that with an active life, playing golf and continuing to travel extensively.

In 1986 Jane’s younger brother, Jack Stewart , and his wife Lu Stewart, introduced her to their good friend Art Anderson of Yakima, Washington. After a whirlwind courtship, they married and had 26 wonderful years together traveling throughout the United States in their motor home, skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho and boating on the Olympic Peninsula.

Jane loved people and had many, many loving friends. She was an avid and excellent bridge player and golfer. She enjoyed her friends at the Yakima Country Club, as well as her Theta Sorority sisters, bridge group and neighbors. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Yakima and cherished her Christian faith and her many friends at First Presbyterian.

Her family and friends remember her as a great and charming lady, loving and giving, supportive of all and always ready to help another.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Susan Hillyard (Will) of Hotchkiss, Colorado and Shea E. Butler of North Hollywood, California, her twin sister Susan Buttrey Unteed of Sugar Grove, Illinois, her sister-in-law, Lu Stewart of Yakima, WA and her step children Susan Eakin (John) of Yakima, Washington, Stephanie Morrell (Sid) of Port Townsend, Washington and David Anderson (Linda) of Gig Harbor, Washington, their families and many nieces and nephews and their families all of whom she loved very much.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Yakima, Washington on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2:00p.m. Her remains will be interred next to her first husband, William Hale Butler, in Parker, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Yakima and the Cottage in the Meadows Hospice in Yakima, Washington.
