born August 30, 1928 in Princeton, Indiana to Evert and Nettie Fritz.
She moved to the Naches Valley in 1935 at the age of 7.
On February 28, 1946, she married Don Walker at the Bride's parents' home. Together they raised
their 4 children. Irene worked at several warehouses including Snokist, Rowe Farms and Kershaw where
she made many friends. Don and Irene were the founding members of the Boot & Spur Club in Naches, WA.
Irene was also involved with the Illahee Women’s Cub. There was always a special place in her heart for her friend, Betty Keys. Don and Irene enjoyed many trips to Reno, Laughlin, Lincoln City and Auburn. They loved to gamble and
Irene was also known as the" lucky one". They also enjoyed many fishing trips to Lake Roosevelt where
Irene loved to hook them but not reel them in.
Irene was known for her sense of humor and laughter. Her laughter was contagious to all those around
her. She loved to tease and liked to call everyone "brat". She loved to play "bumblebee" with everyone.
She was always happy and full of life. Irene was a strong and amazing woman.
She is survived by her husband, Don Walker, daughter Yvonne (George) Grahlfs, son Gary (Karen)
Walker, son Terry (Trudy) Walker, and son Rod Walker. Sister in Law, Velda Welch. She will always be a
loving grandma to Danny (Debi) Kuehn, Jeff Walker, Jason Walker, Terra Wolfe, Tiffany (Kevin) Sigler,
Phil (Katie) Grahlfs, and Emily (Joe) Summers. As well as Great-Grandma to Colby Walker, Jourdan and
Zachary Walker, Grace Walker, Garrett and Dawson Wolfe, Peyton Schmidt, Connor and Alyssa Phelps,
Alex Sigler, Brittany, Danielle and Hannah Kuehn. Great-Great Grandma to Baby Annabelle.
She is preceded in death by her parents Cliff and Nettie Hammer and sister Leona.
Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Naches Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cottage in the Meadow, 1208 S 48th Avenue Yakima,
Washington 98908.
