Helen was born on September 28th, 1950, in Grafton, North Dakota. The oldest of three children Helen grew up in a home where God's word was taught, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ was the most important decision one makes in their life.
After graduation from Cavalier High School Helen met a young soldier, who was serving his country in Vietnam. Through a process of writing letters to one another the two fell in love and upon returning back home after the war the two were united in marriage at Trinity United Methodist Church in Cavalier, North Dakota on December 12,1969. This union endured for 53 years 180 days. As her brother at age four I remember being the ring bearer at their wedding and accidently stepping on the train of her wedding dress. She still reminded me that she thought my little footprint was still on her dress. She loved that memory.
To that union two beautiful daughters were born. Helen was very proud of her daughters each of them being very successful in their vocational pursuits. Helens favorite thing was spending time with family. She loved spending time with her three wonderful grandchildren. Helen also looked forward to coming back to North Dakota every summer for two weeks to visit family and friends getting together at Devils Lake. She said that was her happy place.
Helen will be missed for her sweet spirit and caring personality. Her laughter and loving heart brought a breath of fresh air into any place she was. Helen loved to shop for new clothes and enjoyed always looking her best. I called her my "barbie doll sister". Even though she will be missed dearly, we'll continue to hold on to all the wonderful memories we all have and the certain hope that through Christ we will be reunited again.
Helen is survived by her husband, two daughters; a brother; three grandchildren; a Niece and Nephew.
Helen was preceded in death by her Grandparents, parents and sister.
Blessed be the memory of Helen Gorsuch. "Go rest high on that mountain", as you're reunited with the family you so loved.
