Helen Christine Ehlers

Helen Christine Ehlers passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2016. She was born Helen Christman on October 29, 1916 in New England, ND and was raised on the family wheat farm. Her family headed west in 1935 and lived for a short time in Oregon before settling in Yakima. Helen married Oscar G. Ehlers of Yakima after he served in the U.S. Army during WWII on November 7, 1945. They were married for 55 years.

A devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and also worked periodically outside of the home.

Helen and Oscar were devout Christians and members of Grace Lutheran Church, Yakima.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Mark) Thalberg, sons Glenn, Tim (Tari), Brian (Atsuko), numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, their families and her brother Bill (Star) Christman.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Oscar, father Phillip, mother Pauline, brothers Art, Phillip, Don, sisters Marie and Louise and oldest daughter Claudia.

A most sincere thank you from the family to Pastor Teske and Pastor Salinas, Dr. Richard Boyd, Memorial Hospital Hospice Care, and Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

Viewing will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be at West Hill’s Memorial Park on Thursday, July 28 at 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church at 1207 S. 7th Ave.
