Mom was born in Willows, California on February 18th, 1929 to Alex and Ona Treise. At the age of 9, she moved to Wapato, Washington where she received her education. In high school Mom played trumpet and lettered in tennis. She married her high school sweetheart, Cleve “Bud” Calahan on September 16, 1948. They were happily married for 72 years.
Mom had an incredible work ethic having grown up and worked on farms her whole life. She also worked off and on in warehouses and as a bank teller. She prepared incredible home-cooked meals and prided herself in maintaining a beautiful home, yard, and garden. Mom enjoyed playing tennis, sewing, crafting, gardening, baking, playing the piano and traveling. Mom and dad traveled extensively throughout the U.S., making several trips to Branson, Missouri. They visited Canada and Ireland and took cruises to Hawaii and the Caribbean.
Mom was a loving wife, mother, and a woman of deep faith in the Lord. She instilled her love of music, the arts and her strong values in her children and grandchildren.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband Bud, daughter Kelly Porter, grandson Bryan Johnson, her parents, her brother and sister and many extended relatives.
Mom is survived by four of her children- Diana Johnson of Kennewick, Rita (Michael) Baechler of Port Angeles, Candy (Gene) Woodie of Yakima, Scott (Reena) Calahan of Ellensburg and son-in-law Greg Porter of Yakima.
Mom had 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren- Michele Johnson, daughter Kelsy, great-grandson Chazz Johnson, Kimberly (Brian) King, (Charlotte and Logan), Devin (Rainbo) Woodie, (Boston and Bronx), Caitlynn Woodie, Ian (Ebe) Porter, (Matilda, Leopold, and Wolfgang), Samantha (Blake) Reeves, (Reagan and Ridge), Sareena (Zach) Wallace, (Wyatt and Walker) and Somer (Peter) Sladich.
Mom is also survived by one sister Bev (Don) Barnes and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mom's family is so thankful for the loving and compassionate care she was given at home by her caregivers Delora and Janelle as well as all the wonderful staff at Chandler House and Yakima Memorial Hospice.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park with reception following at Rainier Memorial Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Drive, Yakima, WA 98901.
