Fred was born in Tacoma and grew up in Puyallup, WA. After serving in the Navy during World War II, he received a degree in mechanical engineering from WSU, and
settled in Yakima.
From 1950 through Sept. 2014, Fred was the engineer at Edwards Equipment Company in Union Gap. His deep desire was to be of service to the farming community, and to make the hard work of farming easier by designing unique and specialized farm machinery. He loved his work!
Fred honored the Lord with a life lived with integrity, wisdom and service in the church and the community. He was an active member of Rotary; served many years on the Hearing and Speech Center board, and was one of three founders of KBBO Christian radio station.
Worship of God, fellowship with others, and growing in discipleship to Jesus Christ was at the center of Fred’s life. At Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, (formerly First Presbyterian), Fred was a thoughtful, theologically perceptive teacher of Scripture, training people to follow Jesus with passion, integrity, and intellect in today’s difficult world.
Fred’s family life was precious to him. During more than 61 years of marriage, he and Ruth raised three children and now have 6 beautiful grandchildren. Family dinners led to wonderful, engaging conversations about life, the world, faith in God, and character. Summer camping trips were a family highlight.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; his son, David (Sue) Maloney; and daughters, Patricia (Rick) Grandy, and Linda (Mark) Patterson; and six grandchildren; Peter Maloney, Christine Maloney, Michael Grandy, Ryan Grandy, Sarai (Lander) Brandt, Kalie (Robert) Schiemann. He is also survived by his brother Edward Maloney.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church at 2 pm, Saturday, November 15th.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Boyd for his excellent care. Also thanks to the wonderful staff at Cottage in the Meadow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, Camp Ghormley, or the Union Gospel Mission.
