Floyd W. Lowell passed away March 23, 2019 with family and friends around his bed at Cottage in the Meadow. Floyd loved Jesus and joined his parents Charles and Flora and four siblings: Rose, Carson, Patty and Janice up in Heaven.
Floyd was born in Yakima May 27, 1950. He was raised from childhood at Stone Church with Pastors C.L. Hobson and Dale Carpenter. He loved to sing and sang in the choir and gave solos at the Stone Church as a young man. He graduated from A.C. Davis High School. He attended Northwest College, now Northwest University and sang in the Choralons, the college traveling choir. As Floyd started his work life he enjoyed hair cutting and styling but loved cooking. Floyd worked as a chef in Portland and Seattle.
Floyd never married. He loved music and performance. He enjoyed concerts and could be seen often at the Capital Theatre and other venues.
Floyd was diagnosed with MS at thirty-nine years of age and he struggled with walking and mobility; for the last twenty years he was confined to an electric wheel chair and lived at different convalescent homes in Yakima and Prosser. Floyd, having been a chef, struggled with the food in many of the institutions he lived. Several of the places asked him to serve on the food committee. He had a taste for spicy foods and a variety of ethnicity.
Floyd could be seen across Yakima with his electric wheelchair traveling on Yakima Transit and Dial-a-Ride. He loved to shop, to visit, and to attend concerts and events. He loved the Yakima County Fair and was a regular at the public Library.
Floyd is survived by his sister Roberta Litzman, husband Warren and family in Dallas, TX; Rocky Lowell, wife Donna and family in California; Rev. Dr. James Lowell, wife Jeanne in Yakima and family in Washington, and Patrick Lowell of Spokane, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Cottage in the Meadow for the special care they gave Floyd before he passed away.
