Our beloved Mother & Grandmother, Evelyne Joyce Searl, lifelong Yakima resident, passed away on April 9, 2024, at 88 years of age. Evelyne was born in Yakima on July 13, 1935, to Aven and Vivian Stone. She grew up in Terrace Heights and attended Moxee schools with her older brother Orville, and younger sister Barbara, and graduated from Moxee High School in 1953.
She met her future and forever love; Jerry, in High School, and they were married on July 10, 1953.
Evelyne and Jerry raised 4 boys; Randy, Steve, Alan and Kevin. As a family they enjoyed many years of activities at the YMCA, along with camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling, and motorcycling. Mom even had her own Honda Silver Wing motorcycle that she rode on a weeklong trip to California. They traveled extensively with family and friends in their motorhome, to the Florida Keys, Arizona, the Dakotas, Yellowstone National Park, and campgrounds throughout the Northwest. Over the years many weekends were spent camping with their 4 boys and their families.
Jerry and Evelyne celebrated 59 years of marriage until Jerry’s death in 2012.
Evelyne was an avid swimmer, having spent over 50 years swimming daily, and attending the YMCA. She bowled in two leagues. She enjoyed all types of outdoor activities and working in her yard. She and Jerry each had a Segway that they rode in parades around town. She also loved doing puzzles, beating us all at UNO, Yahtzee, Pitch and Spoons, crocheting, reading, and canning fruit in the summer. She loved God, and enjoyed attending church at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, listening to Gospel music, playing the piano and organ, she even learned to play the accordion. She also enjoyed going to Legends Casino. But the most important thing for Mom was spending time with her family. If any of us had a sporting event, band concert, or recital you could always count on her being there cheering you on. Evelyne was full of life and enjoyed being together as a family on Holidays and Birthdays. She was a firm believer in having 2 or 3 pieces of pie with your meal!
She taught us to have fun in life and to always put your family first.
We will miss you Mom but we know we will see you again someday.
Evelyne is survived by her children; Randy (Susan), Alan (Diane), Kevin Searl, and her special friend Barb Jensen.
Her Grandchildren: Adam (Nicole) Searl, Emily Mobley, (David), KC Searl, (Junior), Rachel, Bradley, and Jeremy Searl.
And her 8 Great Grandchildren: Aavry, Elayna, Bailey, Natalie, Linkin, Gavin, Ethan and Maddison.
Evelyne was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara, her brother Orville, her husband Jerry, and son Steve.
The family would like to thank the staff at both Fieldstone facilities, Assisted Living and Memory Care, for taking such good care of our Mother. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, American Cancer Society, or Alzheimer’s Association.
