Marjorie was born December 17th, 1915 in Goldendale, Washington, the daughter of the late Earnest Andrews and Mabel Andrews (Rhoten). Marjorie’s Grandma Goodnoe and Grandpa Goodnoe were pioneers of Goldendale, and the Goodnoe Hills were named after them.
Marjorie moved from Goldendale in 1919 to East Selah, now known as Pomona. The family shipped all their household furniture ahead. They herded cattle, horses, and carried chickens and turkeys in crates on a lumber wagon. Their trip was delayed a day or two because one of the mares had a colt while crossing the pass. They named the colt Satus.
Marjorie’s father died when she was only eleven years old. After she completed the eighth grade, she worked to help her mother with family expenses. At the age of sixteen she attended Beauty College, graduated, and received her license. After working several years she met the love of her life, Edward A. Liebert, on a blind date.
Marjorie and Edward were married August 25th, 1935. They farmed in various areas of the valley, later settling in the West Valley area. They were both charter members of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985. During their retirement years, they traveled to many places.
Marjorie moved from the ranch to a retirement facility in the fall of 2009. She was residing at The Cottage in the Meadow when she was called home to be with the Lord.
Mom will forever be remembered for her generous heart and her love of crocheting. Over the years, she made numerous afghans, special handmade gifts for her family and friends. She also served on the altar committee at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She made altar cloths and many baptismal napkins. Mom will certainly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Liebert, one brother, Ardell Andrews, and two sisters, Thelma Liebert, and Lucille Baker.
Survivors include one son, Wayne (Glenda) Liebert of Yakima; two daughters, Karen (David) Shrewsberry of Sunnyside, and Sheryl (Michael) Graham of Yakima; one sister, Jean Sonnabend of Yakima; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday December 10th, 2013 at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11th, 2013 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. After the service, burial will take place in the West Hills Memorial Park.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in memory of Marjorie Liebert.
