Dorothy Norma Dozier was born October 4, 1930 and passed away January 28, 2016. Norma, to her family and friends, grew up in Portland, Oregon. As a girl, one of her favorite activities was going for drives in her father’s Buick, especially to the Oregon coast. She distinctly remembered the first time she visited Timberline lodge. Norma attended Grant High School where she loved dressing up for “skirt and sweater” days with her sister, Shirley. She graduated from Oregon State University. Norma met her eventual husband, Duane, through her sister. Although born and raised in Oregon, Norma considered Washington her home, having lived in Yakima for 50+ years.
An accountant by trade, Norma loved to spend time outdoors. Norma took great pleasure working in her rose garden that was the envy of her neighborhood. Norma’s love of gardening started as a girl when she helped her mother’s Victory Garden efforts. Norma was also very competitive, whether playing tennis, golf, or ping pong at the local senior center. Norma and Duane especially loved to raise, train, and work with their Shetland Sheepdogs. Over the years, Norma’s dogs won various blue ribbons for obedience. Norma also enjoyed sharing her dogs by taking them for visits at the senior center. For Norma, her dogs were her ‘kids.’
Norma is pre-deceased by her husband, Duane W. Dozier and her sister, Shirley E. Marks. She is survived by her niece, Beth Reeves and her nephew, Bruce Marks.
Services for Norma will be held Saturday, February 6th, at 10:00 AM at the Rainier Memorial Center located next to Terrace Heights Cemetery at 2807 Terrace Heights Drive, Yakima, Washington.
