Donna Mae Huntington Schmitt

She was born to William and Victoria (Geroux) Huntington in Yakima, WA.

Donna was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in 1946 and went on to graduate from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1949. She served as a registered nurse with both hospitals and several nursing homes in the Yakima area until retiring in 1992.

Her abiding Catholic faith was central in her life. She served in many Parish activities. Through the years she shared her life with nursing school classmates and enjoyed the time together with the ‘Potluck Group’. Reading on a wide range of topics, she had a keen interest in family genealogy and travelling. The early family vacations were later followed by extended trips to many areas of the country with her husband of 62 years, Don. The early years of gardening and later knitting she enjoyed sharing with her children and grand-children.

She supported and encouraged any efforts that valued taking care of the living and protecting life. She was graciously thankful for the care she received at her assisted living home, Englewood Heights, and from the staff at the hospitals.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Schmitt of Yakima; children, Marc Schmitt of Naches, Mary Schmitt of Arlington, WA, Patti (Steven) Alegria of Yakima, Don A. (Polly) Schmitt of Whidbey Island, Joe Schmitt of Naches, Theresa (Dennis) Hoff of Yakima, Ginnie (Dave) Alegria of Fort Worth, TX and Wayne (Ann) Schmitt of Federal Way; brother, Stanley Huntington of Tieton; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Calvary Cemetery.
