Donna Garretson, 67, passed away peacefully at home in Yakima, Washington, February 12, 2016, after a brief illness. Her husband of 45 years, David, was at her side holding her hand.
Donna was born in Olympia, Washington, June 16, 1949 to Raymond Lukenbill and Doris (Allison) Lukenbill. At an early age, the family moved to the Tenino, Washington, area where she met lifelong friends Jeanne Peterson and Sandy McArthur. After graduation from Tenino High School she attended Washington State University, where she met her future husband David Garretson. They were married June 6, 1970, in Pullman. After David’s graduation in 1971, they moved to theYakima area where David worked as an orchard horticulturist and farm manager. Donna finished her college education at Central Washington University a few years later, with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, specializing in accommodating the aging.
After working a few years at each the Yakima Regional Library and the Washington Growers League, Donna settled into her rolls of wonderful wife and mother, woodworker, gardener, jeweler, seamstress, and prolific quilter. Her latest and greatest joy was playing and shopping with her two granddaughters. They had a most special relationship.
Donna leaves behind her husband David, son Jeff (Kyleena) Garretson, granddaughters Kalaila Garretson and Kiriele Garretson, father Raymond Lukenbill, sister Katherine Allison and special friends Carolyn Smith and Beth Hancock. All are from the Yakima area. Preceding her in death were her mother Doris and her brother Edward, both from Tenino.
At Donna’s request there will be no formal funeral services. A celebration-of-life reception will be held later on in the spring.
We wish to express to our family and thoughtful friends our heartfelt thanks for their many kind expressions of sympathy. The beautiful floral arrangements, food and cards are deeply appreciated. Memories and pictures entered into Donna’s page on the Keith and Keith website will be treasured.
