Don was born February 15, 1932 in Chehalis, Washington to Myrtle and Fred Schuster. He graduated 1950 then joined the United States Army where he was stationed at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
Don attended Linfield College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1957. His career took his family to various locations, and finally to Yakima where he worked most of his career at Montgomery Ward.
After his 1st wife, Mable, passed in 1982, Don found love again. He and Shirley were married in 1989.
Together Don and Shirley ran a home day care where dozens of children loved grandpa Don. He truly loved all his children! Everyone was drawn to his smile, his patient, loving and kind personality.
Don is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Debbie (Dan), Robert (Rita), Brian (Ronda), Lisa (Kurt), Debbie, Robin and Mick (Jen), as well as many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren.
An informal service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Yakima Valley Pet Rescue in Don’s name.
Don and Shirley’s family would like to give a special thanks to Lynette, Amanda, an amazing support team and to the many doctors and nurses at Virginia Mason Hospital.
