She was born the third and youngest daughter to Herb and Betty Cantrell at Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA, on February 10, 1959. She would join the life of a traveling Navy family, living mostly on the east and west coasts.
Settling in Selah, Diana would make many lifelong friends and left behind a flavored reputation After high school came cosmetology work at The Bon Marche and much enjoyed time working at Renegade Raceway. Here she began a lifetime love of auto sports.
In the mid 1980s, Diana left the valley for a short time to work on a fish processing boat based out of Alaska. She loved the ocean and left there with many stories to tell of her time at sea.
December 1988 started her life of 30 years with her loving husband Steve Kastl. Their life began with son Eric and in 1989 they welcomed son Reese. With a family love for racing of any kind and growing boys… time was spent enjoying dirt bikes, quarter midgets and eventually stock cars. Being huge NASCAR fans, Ridgerunner Jeep Club members and very supportive parents to racing sons, their lives were blessed with friends of all kinds. Once a friend, always a dear friend that never hesitated to help. A 30 year neighbor that could be counted on.
Diana was a successful business woman owning The Lunch Box Catering Company… one of the valley’s first food truck operations. Later working in accounting, she developed many business related friendships and could be counted on to have “a guy” for any need. Just ask her, she’d tell you!
She loved family gatherings, especially those at Shinn Lodge for Christmas, for the last 25 years. She loved Christmas with all her heart and loved to create the spirit of the holiday for everyone.
One of the greatest joys of her life were her grandbabies. Even during the hardest days of this last year and her battle with cancer, in person and in memory the kids could always lift her spirits.
Diana was loved deeply by many friends and also leaves behind her loving family: husband Steve, sons Reese (Miranda) and Eric (Christy), grandchildren Iza, CJ, Keifer, Bailey, Tavin and Chaz and deceased baby Cooper; parents Herb and Betty, sisters Connie and Deb (Doug) and greatly loved nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Diana left the world a better place and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 am, Friday, March 29th at The Well Church, 1705 W. Chestnut, Yakima. Keith and Keith in charge of arrangements.
