Delores J. Suniga, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on April 20th 2023, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Harlem, Montana on March 28th,1940 to Trinidad and Virginia Suniga. As a young child her parents moved from Harlem, MT to Yakima, WA with dreams of seeking a better future for the family. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Washington Jr. High School, and Davis High School.
Delores was hired by the Yakima School District in 1969 and retired in 2002. Delores not one to sit still, also worked part-time at the Yakima Valley Sundome with the catering and concession department for over twenty years. She took pride, appreciated and enjoyed her jobs with both employers. During her employment, she met many wonderful people and formed memorable lifelong friendships.
Delores was longstanding member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served God as a volunteer with the church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, stunning in her red hat and purple outfit.
Delores enjoyed daily walks with her partner Nick which proved useful for the countless places she traveled. Of her many ventures her all-time favorite was going to Memphis, TN to visit Graceland home of Elvis Presley, "forever the fan". She had a passion for dancing whether watching "Dancing with the Stars" or dancing with her favorite dancing partner, her brother Ken . She was also an outstanding seamstress from a very young age, which prove useful in adulthood sewing school clothes for her children. But, foremost her favorite time was spent enjoying the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Delores is survived by her children Susan (Jim) Billings , Trina (Mike) Gonzales, Michael Risedorf, Lisa Sanchez and Darlene Mendoza. Seventeen grandchildren, twenty-nine great -grandchildren, and eight great- great- grandchildren. Brothers Ken (Carolyn) Azure and Trinidad (Karen) Suniga. Special goddaughter Debbie VanCampen, Brother-in-law Tony Velasquez, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by sister Antoinette Jamison, brother Ray Azure, beloved sister Esther Velasquez, and longtime partner Nick Esparza.
Rosary will be held on May 31st, 2023 at 6:00PM at Langevin Funeral Home located at 1010 W Yakima Ave.Funeral Service will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church on June 1st, 2023 at 10:00AM, with lunch to follow.The Family would like to thank Harborview Medical Center Staff for their outstanding care of Delores.
