Dave was born in Yakima July 13, 1955 to David Leroy and Vera Joy (Clark) Hixon. He lived his entire life in Yakima other than 1973-75 while enlisted in the US Navy. Dave always said the Navy was good to him because they placed him on the same ship with his older brother Steve. Together they went to Viet Nam.
Dave was passionate about several things in life but mostly baseball, before his tour of duty he had even been scouted by the “pros”. And once back home he began his “career” of softball in the Yakima area, whether fast or slow pitch he was always out there. He played for and with many teams but there were several favorites, those being: The Good Samaritan team; James Gang; Curley’s; and the Boondox Nighthawks. In this mix of teams Dave was most proud of the team he helped establish and this was Bill’s Friends. In our mind he never played better than the time with his “Friends”. His favorite tourney was always the “Shark in the Park”. Dave even used a baseball to encourage his son Cory to walk at 8 months!
Family will remember holidays as an arena for Dave’s famous “chicken dance”. We loved that silly dance and we always said it could have made him famous!
Dave worked at Snokist growers for over 30 years and was one of the best fork lift drivers around. He also worked for Lynn Stiles at LS Fencing and considered everyone there his second family. At home he could fix anything that didn’t have a “dang computer attached”, keeping his children’s cars running far longer than they should have.
Surviving family include father David Leroy (Janice) Hixon; his children Nicki Hixon, and Cory (Amie) Hixon; grandson JJ Hixon-Stuart and the new baby Mya Stella Hixon; brother Mark Hixon; sisters Jackie Henretig and Bobbi Lee; step sister Leslie; sister-in-law Lynette Hixon; girlfriend and caregiver Robin Porath; Uncle John Clark, Aunts Mary & Donna, ex wife Terry Davis; his other mom Alcie Steinborn; Tammy Hileman; the ‘boys’: Sam and Troy Steinborn along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends including Alan Adolf, David Hickman, Glenn McBride.
Preceding Dave in death are his mother Vera Joy Skahan just one month ago; brother Steven Leroy Hixon; all grandparents and Dave’s dearly missed best friend in the world, born on the same day: Lee Hickman and we all know the two of them are FISHING once again!
The family would like to give special thanks to Dave’s caregivers from Memorial Hospice.
