Rest easy Dave, I'll miss our talks and your eternal optimistic outlook on the future. Don't give your older sisters too much grief and tell Loretta I'll be there as soon as possible.

I first met Davey when he would cook at the Yakima County Sheriff's Office Special Olympics Torch Run Annual Breakfast at the courthouse.  In fact, he taught me how to make scrambled eggs on a gas griddle!  He was such a joy to be around that I would always try to be cooking the same time as Davey!  I hadn't seen him much in the past few years but when I did he always had the most beautiful smile.  I always think of him when I'm outdoors cooking scrambled eggs!

when I was a teenager.I and my cousin David. would take his roadrunner up to Tampico. He would let me drive by just steering it because he said I was to young I could not drive by myself. But after we got back into town. We headed for the peppermint stick in Union Gap for a chocolate pepsi. He got me hooked on them. We called each other David was my big brat cousin I was his little brat cousin.  He will be missed ===Ila

David was the best brother anyone could ever ask for I only wish we had many years together I will miss him forever but I know I will see him again he is with the rest of my family and I know he has a few things to say to his nephew

What a great man to his family, friends & community!! I could talk to Dave for hours. He was such a great person!! My husband was a neighbor of Daves growing up & they kept that friendship for many, many years. He was such a great community giver, he always gave his best to this community.
He will be greatly missed by many, but I know he is with my husband & the good Lord watching over all of us & BS'ing about all of us. I will miss you Dave!!! Stephanie Ringer

Davey was a mentor to me when I joined Search and Rescue about 5 years ago.  He was always a friendly face in the radio room when I was feeling scared and unsure about my first few missions.  He was the one who encouraged me to get my HAM license.  My most recent memory of him is when he "found" the gal that had spent about a week out in a snowstorm off the Pacific Crest trail.  We were all worried sick about her and thought we might have a bad outcome.  We had spent the whole morning and early afternoon with many teams covering lots of ground with nothing even close to a good clue  as to her where abouts.  People on my team were getting  very discouraged when we heard Davey's transmission over the radio to the mobile command post which went something like this,  
"R108 to MCP"  
"Go ahead"
"Well, I got the gal."  (said as casually as you possibly could.)
"What do you mean?  You found her? What?? 
"Yeah, she's right here." (again, very casually)
"What?? Really?? Is she okay?"
"Well, she's throwing her pack in my rig right now, so I guess she's ok."

This, to me, was Davey at his best.  He just had this incredible thing happen and he is downplaying it with perfect tone and timing.  It still is hilarious to me months later when I think about it, only now it is tinged with sadness because I know we will never hear those nonchalant quips on the radio again, the voice that you could count on being there in the middle of the night on so many all night searches,the man that listened and watched over us, ready to jump to action in a second if we needed something.  The guy that safely and without complaint drove us home from missions when he was surely as dog tired as the rest of us!  We will miss you so much Davey!  I will believe that you will still be watching over us from the big radio room in the sky that has all the big rigs parked outside that you could ever want!  You deserve nothing less!

David, keep me updated on family in Yakima, being gone for all these years. I will never for get are younger years as we grew up. I will see you some day with all the family.Bertha Day

Dave was a hero, a friend, and a mentor; his life was an example to follow, and his laughter will carry on through the ages. His was the voice of tried and true wisdom, he was always willing to give advice, or relate a pertinent story. He spent his life serving for the sake of service, providing all he could muster, often to the benefit of those he never knew. In the time I was blessed to know him, Dave was dedicated, persuasive, and prominent member of Search and Rescue. 
The very first mission I responded to out of the SAR academy, I was paired with Dave, as we searched for a missing aircraft. We spent an entire day together, traversing every road on the map, and some not on the map. I hadn't been with SAR long enough for the ink to dry on my certificate, I was naïf and appetent, and surely drove David to the brink of insanity. I was under the impression that our assignment was to complete the mission, a misconception which Dave indulged for a good while. After several hours of seeming to accomplish nothing, my rabid enthusiasm began to wane, which was when Dave finally revealed the greater lesson: 
“Sometimes you have to look everywhere else before you find what you're looking for, and we're coving the ‘everywhere else' today.”  
In the time I spent around Dave, it wasn't often I didn't learn something new. Beyond his quick and quirky wit, Dave possessed a wealth of knowledge. He may not have always of been the most tactful, but if you listened to what he had to say, you were a better person for it. Dave was a good man, a good person, and for those of us who knew him – we are all better for it.

I think Dave had a heart bigger then the world, he was always such a kind and giving person.
I will really miss my cuz. We will be seeing each other in a better place.  Love you

UNC forever will be my Hero and Knight IN Shining Armour, thank you for letting me be Princess Brat Child, thank you for being the perfect Uncle, thank you for being the Giant of a Man you always have been, I am so very Proud to call you UNC. Hold onto that piece of my heart you took, I'll get it back when I join you and my Mama and the rest of the family, gonna get me a tiara in the meantime. I Love you UNC! Forever and always.
