Chester V. Meyer was born on May 17, 1918 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota to Otto and Inez Meyer. At an early age Chet's parents moved to lake Stevens, Washington. Chet's public schooling from the first grade through High
School was in Lake Stevens and he graduated in 1936.
After High School, he went to work for Friedlander and Sons Jewelers in Seattle and
attended Business College at night. In 1940, Chet was called to active duty
for one year with the National Guard in the 248th Coast Artillery. After his discharge, he resumed his employment with Friedlander and Sons. On December 7, 1941 Chet joined the Navy and was a torpedo man on a PT
boat in the Solomon Islands from Guadalcanal to Bougainvillea. He was discharged in 1945.
After the war, he again resumed his position with Friedlander and Son jewelry firm.
Chet married Evelyn Love in Everett, Washington in 1947.
Chet and Evelyn purchased Dunbar Jewelers in Yakima in 1966 and they retired in 1978.
Chet was a gemologist and a former member of the American Gem Society.
He and Evelyn have one son Michael and his wife Roberta from Centralia, Washington. They had two grandchildren Matthew and Tarina and her husband Tim with great grandson Trevor. Chet was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in 1986, a brother Wallace and his wife Beverly and two great grandsons Seth and Timmy. Chet will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
