Chuck (Charlie) passed away peacefully on January 19, 2012 after a long illness. He was born in Dickinson, North Dakota, August 4, 1932 to Henry L. Schmidt and Elizabeth (Baer) Schmidt, the youngest of fourteen children. Chuck grew up in Bickleton and Yakima and graduated from Yakima High School in 1950, living most of his adult life in Yakima.
After high school Chuck served in the United States Coast Guard and then became a meat cutter, working for Garretson’s, Albertson’s and Safeway grocery stores.
On August 27, 1955, Chuck married Dorothy Helen Zerr. They were married for almost 44 years before her passing in 1999.
Chuck enjoyed bowling with his brothers and friends and fishing with family. After retirement he volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross.
Chuck is survived by his daughter Vincynthia (Cindy) Lewis (husband Jeff) of Issaquah, WA and their daughters Breanne (one son) and Adreanne, son Charles Schmidt Jr. (wife Sheri) of Yakima, WA and their daughter Kresa (2 daughters and two sons), son Jerome Schmidt (wife Lisa) of Naches, WA and their daughter Samantha and son Stephan, daughter Teresa Hoffee of Yakima, WA and her daughters Hailey and Hannah, brothers Thomas (wife Ismae) of Yakima, WA, Leo (wife Shirley) of Yakima, WA and Wilfred (Delores) of Hood Canal, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents Henry and Elizabeth, his brothers Paul, Frank, Jacob, and Peter and his sisters Katherine, Rosie, Elizabeth, Helen, Pauline and Anna.
Viewing at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25th, 4-8pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral at 10am, Thursday, January 26th.
