Carol was born in Salina, Kansas, but moved very shortly thereafter to Washington State with her mother, brother and two sisters. They planted roots in Vancouver, Washington where Carol attended Vancouver High School and rarely missed an opportunity for swing dancing when the big bands came to Portland. She had many fond memories and fun-filled stories to tell of her college life at Washington State University and membership in the Delta Gamma sorority. While at WSU, she met and married Lyle Woolf. Upon completion of college, Lyle and Carol moved to Montgomery, Alabama for a two-year assignment with the U.S. Air Force. They returned to the Northwest first settling in Clarkston, Washington, and two years later, in Yakima where Carol ran house and home while helping Lyle establish their new business, Woolf’s Drug. Over the years, Carol played an active role in the Yakima community to include Junior Century, Elks Golf Club, the Episcopal churches of St. Timothy’s and St. Michael’s where she helped run the Food Bank, and as an infusion room volunteer at North Star Lodge following her survival of breast cancer. Her love of children often led her to participate in a number of community-wide children’s health programs.
Carol seemed to have endless energy and smiles for her family and friends. Always up for a board game, a run to the Dairy Queen for Peanut Buster Parfaits, weenie roasts at the beach in Seaview, a game of Bridge and, later in life, adventures in Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. Her grandchildren adored their “Daboo” and giggled about her personal stash of bite-sized Snicker candy bars or her uncanny knack for bumping into (or making) friends wherever she went.
Carol is survived by her son, Lindsey Woolf of Hillsborough, CA; daughters Sharon Woolf and Susan Pollard (Marc) of Seattle; and beloved grandchildren Madeleine Stein, Dylan Stein, Rachel Pollard and Jessica Pollard of Seattle. Carol’s husband, Lyle Woolf, preceded her in death in December 2014.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Cottage in the Meadow, 1208 S. 48th Ave., Yakima, WA 98902.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Yakima on November 7 at 7:00 pm
