Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home
Carol Ann Bass, a longtime Wenas Valley resident, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010, on her 86th birthday.
Carol was born December 21, 1924, at Wapakoneta, Ohio, to Joshua and Lela (McClintock) Winget. She later moved to Bremerton to work in the shipyards and then joined the Navy to become a hospital corpsman. Carol met her husband, Tom Bass, in 1945 while they were serving in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, Tom worked for Boeing until 1987 when he retired. While Tom was traveling for work, Carol and her son kept the ranch going that they bought in 1961.
Carol did not spend a lot of time worrying about herself. She and her husband, Tom both lived busy lives in their own worlds, so when they were able to be together it was all frosting on the cake. Carol's focus was on other people. She was one of those special people who brightened the lives of those around her. For 40 years she opened her arms and home to young people from 8 to 15 years of age on the Triple B Ranch.
Carol is survived by her son, Thomas Bass, III, of the Wenas Valley; two grandchildren, Carolynn Bass and Jason Bass and his wife, Heather, all of Yakima; a sister, JoAnn (Rix) Yuly of Hoodsport; a brother, Charles Winget of Buckeye, Arizona; and two sisters-in-law, Sybal Winget of Kirkland and Shirley Winget of Tacoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Lela Winget; her two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Barbara Ann; her husband Thomas Bass, Jr.; three brothers, Eugene, John and Mac Winget; and by a sister-in-law, Agnes Winget.
Viewing will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the West Side Church, 6901 Summitview Avenue, Yakima. Family committal services and interment will follow at the Wenas Cemetery.
There will be a gathering to celebrate her life on July 9, 2011 at the Bass family ranch from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Yakima, in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
