After an 18 month battle with cancer Brenda passed away at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, WA on Tuesday, November 4, 2015, at 7:05 AM just as the sun was rising. She is survived by her husband James P. Johnson of Yakima, WA. Her mother Roberta Kelley of Seattle, WA, brother Jeff Kelley of Olympia, WA, and sisters Janel Silver of Seattle, WA, and Claudia Cook of Juneau, AK. Sons Torey (23) and Tyler Franzen (27) of Yakima, WA, daughter Haley Franzen (30), and grand-daughters Kore’ (7) and Kaley Franzen (3) of Juneau, AK. Brenda was born in Spokane, WA at Deaconess Hospital. She is a 1977 graduate of West Valley High School in Yakima, WA. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority at Washington State University and a graduate of Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics – Early Childhood Education. Brenda work for many years as the RALLY Site Manager at Riverbend Elementary School in Juneau, AK. She was married to her husband, Jim, in June 2004 and they resided in Dana Point, CA from then until 2011 when they relocated back to Yakima, WA.
Brenda’s wish was to have a Private Celebration of Life Ceremony at her home with immediate family members only. No other services will be held. She requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1100 Fairview Ave. N., Mail Stop J-200, Seattle, WA 98109.
