Barbara Faith, 83, passed away on December 13, 2011 at Yakima Regional Hospital following a major stroke. The youngest of eight children, Barb was born on July 11, 1928 to John and Regina (Rohrich) Gisinger in the farming community of Linton, N.D. She attended a one-room country schoolhouse until her parents moved to Bismarck, N.D. where she completed her education in parochial schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1945.
In 1946 Barbara married Raymond Faith in Bismarck. Ray, who also came from Linton, had settled in Bismarck after serving in the Navy during WW II. A year after their marriage they traveled to Oregon to visit family members and while there decided to also visit friends in Yakima. They enjoyed the visit so much that they never returned to North Dakota and decided to make Yakima their home. In the years that followed they produced four baby boomer children and were together until Ray's death in March of this year. Barb sorely missed him more than people realized.
While raising her family, Barbara worked numerous jobs to help pay the bills and to put to the children through private schools. For many years she worked as office clerk for the WT Grant store until it closed. Thereafter, she worked as a sales clerk for several retail stores including Dahnken's Jewelry and Jed's Sporting Goods. Barb retired in 1984 when Jed's closed.
During her life Barbara's favorite pastimes were bowling, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. She and Ray participated in many bowling leagues together in their younger days. Her crochet works seemed to adorn every piece of furniture in the house. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church from the day it was established and was active in the church's Young Ladies Institute. Together with her husband, she developed many close and lasting friendships in Yakima through their involvement in church and social activities. Barbara's life was largely dedicated to her family. She watched over her parents who built a home next door after they moved to Yakima. She was devoted to her husband whose health condition in later years required her careful attention; and she treasured family get togethers to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
Barbara is survived by three sons, Pat Faith of Camano Island, WA, Alvin Faith of Yakima, WA,, and Richard Faith of West Linn, OR and their respective spouses, Linda, Linda and Cynthia; seven grandchildren Chris, Donia, Brent, Barbara, Todd, Jason and Ryan, and seven great-grandchildren. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, of 64 years, a daughter Kathy, and her three brothers and four sisters.
