Anna Rosine Garman was born on December 11, 1940, in Malta, Montana to Kenneth & Arlene Stearns. She was the second of seven children, along with an additional five half brothers and sisters. The family eventually relocated to Sunnyside, Washington where Anna attended school. After high school, Anna became a bartender at the Safari Room in Sunnyside for many years. That’s where she eventually met & started dating Robert Garman. They were married in 1967. Robert was a loving, caring husband and wanted to take care of his wife, so she became a homemaker.
Anna desperately wanted children and waited patiently for 7 years before she was blessed with the adoption of a 6-month-old baby girl, who she named Kathy Ann. In 1976, the family bought a home on Cherry Lane, in Grandview, where they lived for the next 40 years. Anna was very active in the community and was a well-known local artist. She had an incredible gift with oil paintings & drawings. She was always crafty, sewing clothes for her family, making quilts and baking cookies. Anna was the epitome of a “Mommy” to Kathy as well as all her classmates. The house was always full of life with slumber parties, basketball games in the driveway and a room full of kids playing video games. Anna and Robert gave the world to their daughter, always making sure she was spoiled. In July 1992, Anna was blessed to become a grandma to her only grandchild, William. Life quickly focused on him. Anna adored her grandson and made so many precious memories with him. She was so proud of William graduating from college and supported his career decisions along the way. Anna encouraged and supported Kathy in pursuing a nursing degree, which Anna always loved to brag about. She always loved telling people that her daughter was an ER nurse that saved lives.
After Robert passed in 2014, Anna moved to Yakima to be closer to her daughter. William soon followed, and the entire family was back together again in Yakima. They spent many days having family BBQ’s, Super Bowl parties and holiday gatherings. They went on numerous family vacations, the last to New York in September 2018. It was the most epic, special getaway for Anna, Kathy, and Billy. Unfortunately, Billy passed away unexpectedly a month later. Shortly after, Anna moved into Living Care, where she quickly fit right in. It was like an “old lady frat house” with so many events and activities, from wine tasting to bingo to ice cream socials. Anna began teaching a painting class at Living Care, encouraging all the other residents to find their creative side. Anna also attended painting classes at the Harmon Center for many years and developed some amazing friendships. Anna was a social butterfly and loved making cookies for her friends. Over the next few years, Kathy, Dalleri and Anna went on numerous vacations and get-aways together. Anna always loved traveling and being spoiled. She loved seeing new places and trying new things. Anna went to Mexico six times and loved the beaches, ruins, and the culture. Anna loved her steaks and big ice cream cones. Anna traveled all over the US and Hawaii with Kathy & Dalleri. That was her favorite thing, exploring new places and making memories. Eventually Anna started slowing down and couldn’t travel anymore. Anna, Kathy & Dalleri still spent every day together, helping Anna with anything she needed. They had lots of family dinners, went to the cinema, and spent a lot of time just hanging out with Anna, watching tv. Anna always loved Dalleri and thought of her as a second daughter. Anna was kind, unselfish, generous, and funny. She made the cutest little faces and had the best sayings. Home was where Anna was and that was the most comfortable place in the world. Anna lived a full and adventurous life. Anna and Kathy had the most amazing relationship until the very end. Anna passed peacefully surrounded by Kathy, Dalleri, her niece, Darla and great-niece, Caprice. Anna knew she was loved and adored by all. She was the most supportive Mommy and loved her daughter unconditionally. And Kathy’s world revolved around Anna. With her passing, the world has lost a treasure, a gem, and a Mommy to all. My mom’s last words to me were, “You have been the greatest joy in my life. I’m so blessed that I got to be your Mommy”. Same, Mom. Same. Forever my best friend, my rock, my hero, and my role model. Thank you for being my Mommy. Anna is survived by her daughter, Kathy Vaughn and wife Dalleri Olels. She leaves behind her brother Kenny Stearns and wife Sally, brother Joe Stearns and his wife Sandy. Anna also leaves behind her first best friend and baby sister, Gloria Wallace and husband Jim. She has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will also miss Anna. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Bill, Mike & Hattie Joe and half brothers and sisters, Pete, Gay, Bunny, Romona & Peggy. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert Garman, and her precious grandson William Vaughn.
A special thanks to the staff at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital for always taking such good care of Mama and treating her like family. Funeral Services will be held at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home on Tuesday July 11, 2023 at 11:00, Anna will be laid to rest by her husband and her grandson at the Zillah Cemetery after the funeral.
