Virginia Lynn Bauer “Lynn,” age 74, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side on July 23, 2023 after a three year battle with cancer. She was born on September 21, 1949 in Wheeling, WV to her loving parents, Robert Lee McDonald Sr and Ella V. North McDonald.
Lynn was full of life - an energizer bunny who was up before dawn and could drink coffee until late at night. She loved her Steak and Shake milkshakes, peanut M&Ms, and going out to eat with her husband (especially if they had something "crispy" on the menu). Lynn was a homebody and enjoyed sitting in her spot on the couch next to Steve, taking turns answering spam calls with Steve and giving them a piece of her mind. Lynn was the most wonderful mom; and her daughter was her whole world. She took her role seriously: helping at every school event, being a Girl Scout Troop leader, shuttling kids to and from 5am swim practices, cheerleading at every event possible even into Stephanie's adulthood. Lynn was a devoted friend to all and kept in special contact with her Wheeling High School graduating class of 1967. She also enjoyed her Wednesday Ladybug League bowling where she made lifelong friends. Lynn loved: “making memories,” the color yellow, daisies, and sunflowers. On even the warmest of days, she always had to wear long sleeves in case she got cold. She had a special bond with her miniature schnauzer, Otis, who was a wonderful caretaker over the years and never left her side. Each year Lynn looked forward to the day after Christmas when she could have the McDonald clan to her house, including her nieces and nephew, and all of her grand nieces and nephews for their traditional family dinner and annual Christmas photo on the spiral steps.
For many years, Lynn worked as an X-ray technician with Riverside Hospital and the Milhon Clinic, retiring after Stephanie was born to be a full time mom (a job which she was very proud of). Later in life, Lynn was a server at Biddie’s Coach House in Dublin, OH where she adored her regulars and the quaint atmosphere of the little restaurant she and Stephanie came to love on their mother daughter dates.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dr. Stephen R. Bauer, her daughter Stephanie L. Bauer, brother Robert Lee McDonald and his wife Paula (Wheeling), sisters-in-law Eunyce (Steve) Prouty (Lake Norman, NC), Mary Jo Bauer (Sugar Grove, OH), nephews Michael (Rachel) McDonald, Greg (Melanie) Collins, Jeff (Suzie) Collins and nieces Carrie (Brant) Cook and Laura (Rob) Blanchard as well as her eight great nephews and nieces. Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jeffrey North McDonald, sister-in-law, Becky Bauer, and brother in law, Elvin Weir.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Pelotonia, an organization which Stephanie has participated with for the past 15 years. Funds raised go towards research at OSUCCC - The James Cancer Hospital, where Lynn received her treatment and was gifted the opportunity to make more memories through their innovative cancer research.
