Thomas Henry Dillon, Jr., born April 17, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully in his home on June 21, 2022, after a long battle with IPF. He is predeceased by his parents Ella Mae Rogers and Thomas Henry Dillon, his sister Betty, and one daughter Kristen. Thomas is survived by his wife Judy; sister Bonny; his son Geoff; his daughters Lisa (Gary), Lauri (Nick), and Leslie (Chance); his grandchildren Mitchell (Brooke), Amanda (Taylor), Andrew (Casie), Casie (Brett), Chloie, Maggie, August, Griffin, and Mollie; his six great-grandchildren who lovingly called him G-Papa; and many more family members and friends near and far.
A kind heart and humorous spirit led Tom through life in all his endeavors. He graduated from Linden McKinley high school in 1956 where he was on the golf team, played basketball, and hung with his lifelong friends of the Hoods AC. He met Judy Kabealo at a dance at the Park of Roses in the summer of 1957 and had their first date at The Ohio State University Homecoming Dance that fall. They were married in November of 1958 and enjoyed 64 years with each other. Tom worked for Columbus and Southern Electric, starting as a line installer, and rising to supervisors of many substations for American Electric Power, retiring after 40 years of work. Always doing something, Tom was an active member and president of Worthington Cardinal Boosters, a Scout leader for BSA Troop 65, and an avid golfer with the EGL and York Golf Club. Tom was the proud owner of a 1956 Chevy Bel Air, and could often be found in the company of his fellow car enthusiast at the Mid-Ohio Classic Chevy Club.
Tom was resolute, at his heart, as someone who built things. He built a family, he built his home in Worthington, he built sports teams throughout the Worthington community, and he built strong relationships with friends in Columbus and in Harbor Island, South Carolina. More importantly, he helped many build their own knowledge and understanding in so many ways. The world around him was one great project site where he was continually the foreman and always willing to impart his wisdom. Tom was driven by a need to contribute to the community around him, to give to those he shared space with. He gave what he valued most: skills, hard work, and love. He was a steady influence on so many he met through teaching, coaching, and nurturing. Tom’s essence was that of a loving man who worked to facilitate and increase the chances for success and confidence for others. Tom was a man who worked to build a wonderful life for those around him.
