Richard H. Reuning, age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at home surrounded by family. Dick was born on January 3, 1941 in Wellsville NY to Carl E. and Mildred (Arnold) Reuning, both of whom preceded Dick in death. Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith Brandes Reuning, son Steve (Laura) Tuhela-Reuning, daughter Julie (Jonathan) Reuning-Scherer, grandchildren Joel Reuning-Scherer and Stephanie Reuning-Scherer, brother Sanford (Joan) Reuning, and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Dick and Judy went to first grade together but it was at their senior all-night party at Wellsville Central High School in 1959 that they began dating. Dick and Judy were married on June 8, 1963 in Wellsville, NY, and were friends and partners for life.
Dick received his BS (1963) and PhD (1968) in Pharmaceutics from SUNY Buffalo. In 1970, Dick joined the faculty at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and enjoyed a 30 year career as a Buckeye. During a sabbatical in 1980, Judy, Steve, and Julie joined Dick for a year in Australia where many amazing family memories were made. During his career, Dick published 60 papers which were cited 1310 times and mentored numerous graduate students from around the world. Dick and Judy enjoyed visiting Dick’s former students during their travels.
In their “retirement,” Dick and Judy founded Lifecrossings, LLC, which focused on publishing materials for adult Christian education. In his leisure time, Dick was an avid gardener and loved visiting his grandkids in Connecticut. Dick also had a lifelong love of baseball and played violin in church and with the musical trio Synchronicity.
Dick was an ardent supporter of Faith Mission, an organization that provides services to the homeless, where he served as a board member. Synchronicity held annual fund-raising concerts that raised nearly $100,000 for Faith Mission over the years.
