Nancy McKaig Case of Worthington, Ohio, age 66, passed away on June 9, 2024. She was preceded in death by her mother Jaleen Rogers McKaig originally from Fulton, New York, and her father Samuel Isaac McKaig, originally from Janesville, Wisconsin. She is survived by her beloved husband Larry D. Case. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Tim and Tess McKaig of Madison, Alabama; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Yvonne McKaig of Corinth, Texas; brother Sam McKaig of Arkansas; nieces and nephews Kelley McKaig Rogers (Michael), Katey McKaig Nelson (Dugan), Aly McKaig Miller (Noah), Jon McKaig and Maddie McKaig; and grandnieces Marie Rogers, Ella Rogers, Samantha Nelson and Bailey Nelson. Of course, she is also survived by her beloved black labrador retriever Doby.
Nancy was born and raised in Marion, Indiana, attended Marion High School, and maintained lifelong friends from her days in Marion. She left Indiana (but not too far) to attend Miami University, graduating in 1980. She maintained lifelong friends from her days in Oxford, Ohio. After graduating, in fact before being able to attend her college graduation ceremony, she started Peace Corp training and then was stationed in Cameroon as a Cooperative Technical Advisor. This time in service in a faraway land before cellphones, email and the like, was a seminal time in her life and a time of great growth. In fact, Nancy extended her stay in the Peace Corp, ultimately serving 3 ½ years. She maintained lifelong friends from her days in Cameroon. After returning to the United States, she worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C., but life in government in Washington was not Nancy’s style. She did, however, maintain lifelong friends from her time in Washington. Next up for Nancy was graduate school at Yale University where she received a master’s from the Yale School of Management. And she maintained lifelong friends from her time in New Haven.
Nancy was recruited out of Yale by Bank One Corporation to join its Executive Development Program in Columbus, Ohio. After various training and leadership positions at Bank One, 15 years of service, and various corporate mergers, Nancy’s position was eliminated, and she moved on. Of course, she maintained lifelong friends from her time at Bank One. She knew that more banking was not in her future, but needed to take some time to figure out what was next, so after a short sabbatical (okay, 15 months) she joined United Way of Central Ohio. Funding critical need programs targeted at employment in the central Ohio area was much closer to her soul, and she was able to bring her management and leadership education, training and experience into the nonprofit sector. After 3 years at United Way and after developing some lifelong friendships, Nancy was recruited away to join Columbus State Community College. Her career at CSCC included various management and leadership positions in workforce development and other programs. Nancy ultimately retired in 2022 as Dean of Partnerships and Programs, having developed friendships that would last the rest of her life.
In Columbus, Nancy’s service to the community included the Goodwill Columbus Board, the Columbus Montessori Education Center Board, the New Directions Career Center Board, the United Way Women’s Leadership Council and in various positions at Worthington Presbyterian Church.
Nancy and Larry are a “Miami Merger” (Love and Honor you RedHawks). While they spent 3 years at Miami at the same time, they have never been able to determine that they crossed paths while at Miami University. They did cross paths in Columbus, however. They were introduced at a Christmas Party by twin sisters and were married in July 1995 on a gloriously sunny day befitting Nancy’s outlook on life.
In lieu of flowers, friends may if they wish make contributions in Nancy’s memory to: the National Park Foundation (https://www.nationalparks.org); Pelotonia (https://www.pelotonia.org); the Nancy McKaig Case Scholarship at Miami University Foundation (https://www.givetomiamioh.org/CaseScholarship or by sending a check payable to Miami University Foundation (memo line: Nancy McKaig Case Scholarship) mailed to 725 E Chestnut St., Oxford, OH 45056); or a charity that is special to the donor.
