Martha Jean Mitchell, of Dublin, Ohio, passed peacefully on March 27 at Kemper house Worthington. Known by many as Aunt Jean, she maintained grace and dignity, while struggling with a terrible disease for five years. She deeply loved her family and the residents and staff of Kemper House. She was always concerned that the staff was working too hard. Born in a small town in the mountains of central Pennsylvania, Jean experienced the hardships of growing up during a war which tore families and communities apart. It made her strong and independent. She would go on to attend four universities, and serve in many capacities, including GE, NASA, The Pentagon, and the 12th Air Force HQ in Germany. After caring for her mother for 10 years, she would join her remaining family in central Ohio, and serve as a loving mentor. Jean was 92. She was preceded in death, by her mother, Lulu Steele Mitchell, her father, Lt. Col Irvin Mitchell USAF, and her sister Shirley. She is survived by her brother, Irvin Mitchell Jr., nieces, Monica, Keesha, Erin, Milly, Colleen, and Kendall, and nephews, Doug, Michael, Trey and Connor, and her dear friend, June Burier. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
