Linda was the best secretary we had at Weinland Park.  She loved the kids, and watched over the teachers.   Linda is the reason I have twelve cats today.  She sent me my first little black kitten.  It was supposed to be a joke.  The safety patrols brought in a lost kitten they had found.  Everybody knew I loved cats, but couldn’t have one because my husband was allergic.  Linda  told the patrols to take the kitty up to my classroom anyway.  I fell in love, and that kitty became the classroom kitty.  Eventually I had twenty kitties, at home, and my husband got over his allergies.

So sad to learn of Linda’s passing.  Have spent time visiting & playing euchre.  Also, eating out & going to great music.  Sympathy to all of her family & friends.  RIP, Linda

Her fun, warm, and welcoming personality also extended to trips that she would take with different ones of us family, the kids, myself, her son, etc.  She would always find ways to make those trips more happy, more exciting, more fun.  Her fun and creative spirit was contagious, and that is not something everyone can say.  I remember quite a few fun trips with her, which her bright spirit made even more fun and memorable.

From someone who didn't have much of an extended family to be with a lot of their lives, whenever I was in her home or out on an outing with her, I always felt that time with her, along with the rest of the family, gave me a really good taste of what real warm and welcoming, extended family, was actually like.  And those are the memories of her that will stay in my mind for a long time to come.

What can I say about Linda Brown... Based on some of my best and stand-out memories with her in them, she loved making a warm and welcoming home for her family, and she loved having fun, being creative, and making sure those she spent time with felt welcome and had lots of fun.

Some of my best memories of her were when I, or I and her son, would bring her older granddaughter over [and later on both of her granddaughters], for a visit when they were very young.  She would always have fun, creative activities lined up for them to do together, and the kids always loved doing them with her.  Her home was always very comfortable, and she would always have fun food to eat.  The kids always loved visits there, and I loved seeing them so happy having fun with her.  

Another set of very fond memories I had of her was how, especially when I was pregnant with both of the kids, and I would visit her, she would always be making Snicker-doodle [sugar and cinnamon] cookies!  [as well as many other baking treats!]  I loved those kinds of cookies, and she'd always let me eat a whole bunch of them right out of the oven, as well as many more later on!  It was another example of how much she could make one feel warm and welcomed in her home.  Coming from someone who always suffered from so much anxiety, this was such a warm and very helpful and healing experience for me all the time.

Even before I was pregnant with the first of her two grandkids, I very fondly remember the visits her son and I would make from out of state.  Again, her home was always like a home away from home.  On holidays her home would feel like the most amazing “Bed and Breakfast” house you could imagine on the most amazing magazine or holiday movie, except even better, because we were family, and she would always treat family so welcomingly into her home.  It was a kind of feeling that made you never want the time there to be over, because it felt so inviting, so comfortable, and so peaceful.

I was very sorry to learn of Linda's passing. It's a great loss to her family, I would say especially to her 2 granddaughters who would have benefitted so much as young adults from a relationship with her.  She had so much to offer them.  She was such a fun person, ready to try new things, creative, funny sense of humor.  She went through some tough times, as most do, but she made the best of it and persevered.  She was a trouper.  She was lucky in the last few years to have such a devoted son and daughter-in-law.  I'm sorry she's gone.
