Joseph William Baltzer, Jr. (Joe) age 87 passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022 at his home in Dublin, Ohio. Born November 18, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to his late parents, Joseph William Baltzer, Sr. and Ellen Madelaine Baltzer. He was the oldest of their nine children, with a total of 6 boys and 3 girls. Preceded in death by his loving wife Deann Marie and his siblings Bernard, Thomas, Rita Ray, John and Robert Baltzer. He is survived by his loving family, children Debie (Jim) Baumann, David (Helen) Baltzer, grandchildren Justin (Kelly) Baltzer, Nathan (Whitney) Baltzer, Luke (Annamarie) Baltzer, Jimmy (Angela) Baumann, Jacci (Nathan) Graham, honorary grandchildren Lila and Erin Baumann, 5 great grandchildren with one more due in September 2022, siblings Fred Baltzer, Theresa Munson and Pat Wallis, and many other loving nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors and extended family members.
Joe had a long career in construction, after graduating from Holy Family High School, starting as a carpenter with Better Built Homes, followed by being a superintendent with Ernest G Fritsche, superintendent/project manager with Homewood Builders and finally retiring as a project manager with Rockford Homes in 1999 at the age of 65.
Joe also was in the United States Army from 1955-1957, with a hardship discharge due to his father’s illness. Over the years, Joe was an active member and volunteer at St. James the Less, St. Francis DeSales High School and St. Joan of Arc, where he volunteered his time and expertise at festivals, setting up the church for holidays, making meals and participating on special committees.
After retirement, Joe continued to volunteer with the church and actively led many home improvement projects for his children, friends and neighbors. Joe was a very caring and devoted Catholic man who included many individuals on his daily prayer list and loved his beloved wife dearly. Part of Joe’s daily routine was reading the Columbus Dispatch every day and letting family and friends know if there was anything interesting happening. There were so many things Joe enjoyed doing over the years. One of which, he was a big time sports and arts enthusiast. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting and theatre events - often commenting on how proud he was of all of them. Joe was known for being strong willed, direct, optimistic, witty, having a great sense of humor, being kind hearted and most of all having a memory like a steel trap! He will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path.
