John Eckert Young III, U.S. Navy Veteran, age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024. He was born April 5, 1941, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late John E. Young Jr. and Helen V. Young. John is survived by his significant other of 14 years, Barbara Taylor, brother, Ron Young, sons; Mark, Matt and Andy Nelson, daughter-in-laws; Michelle, Linda, and Debbie, grandchildren; Jeremy (Stephanie), Elyse, Mikala, Katie, Alex, Quinten, Jack, and Drew Nelson, and great granddaughters; Anna and Ava Nelson, along with other dear family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters; Shirley Ann Young and Virginia Marie Young Bonk. John graduated from John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware. After high school John enlisted in the Navy for 4 years. He then began his career which expanded over 50 years with Caterpillar Dealerships, as a certified operator trainer. He finished out his career with Ohio CAT. In John’s free time he loved attending Car Shows, bringing his own, 2015 Ruby Red Ford Mustang. Some of his great joys in life included meeting Gale Halderman, an original Ford Mustang Designer and creating a great friendship. They spent many afternoons sitting on the porch at the Halderman museum in Tipp City. Another joy was meeting Gail Wise, the first owner of the 1964 Ford Mustang. John had many endearing qualities about him that attracted people to him. He was loving, gentle, non-judgmental and ultimately a great listener. He made people feel warm and supported. He was a bright presence in people’s lives and will be missed deeply.
